With the original line up preparing to hit the stage at T in the Park on Saturday for their first Scottish gig in more than two decades, Ian remembers when the circus came to town and says it was the Manchester band's best ever show.
"It was like a tropical forest inside the tent, with the heat and sweat of the audience and condensation on the roof falling on us.
"But the sound was much better in Glasgow and the band were in a great mood. They had an inner confidence about them and didn't put a foot wrong. They were on top of the world.

He said: "My first experience was with the Roses in 1985, when I was commissioned to photograph their first manager Howard Jones, who was also the first manager of the Hacienda nightclub.

"Ian Brown's vocals have been criticised, but he sounded great back then. Glasgow was the top of the mountain.
Ian photographed The Stone Roses in more than a dozen shoots, including a session for the inside sleeve of their debut album, and also at their landmark gigs at Blackpool and Spike Island. But he believes their gig in Glasgow, where 7000 lucky fans were crammed into a circus tent, was the one.
"There wasn't an amazing light show but the gig worked so well because of the talent and confidence of the band.

He said: "It is the one that goes down in history because it was the pinnacle of The Stone Roses' career. Those who had the nous to go along ought to be really pleased with themselves."
"I photographed Howard for a magazine article, and he told me that there was this band I had to hear. He put a cassette on the ghetto blaster and showed me a photo of them and I thought both were really bad.
"They had an amazing back line of Reni and Mani on drums and bass, one of the best ever, and John Squire reminded me so much of Jimmy Page. This was years before The Second Coming came out.
"Glasgow Green was the pinnacle of the baggy scene and the Stone Roses' height of fame. After that, it was a slippery slope downwards.
"No one knew it would be the last gig they would play for nearly five years and the last gig Reni would play with them until they reformed. Anyone who was there saw the best of them."

"It was a young audience and for some kids it was their first gig, which is why it meant so much to them. The number of fans in Reni hats and baggy jeans was amazing.
Ian, pictured with Ian Brown below, said: "Everything came together that day. They had played Spike Island a few days earlier and the sound had been very poor.
